Urban weddings

A wedding band from Zagreb

You're looking for a wedding band.
You don't want a typical wedding band.

Luckily, Retrodukcija plays weddings.

Typical wedding bands try to please as broad a crowd as possible, cover a large number of musical styles and fit into the familiar wedding programme. We went a different way.

Retrodukcija brings the music we love listening to and playing ourselves — rock'n'roll, new wave, indie, funk, disco, pop and the evergreens that still carry live. No requesting songs from the table, and no need for the night to sound like every other wedding. We play weddings in Zagreb and across Croatia.

For us an urban wedding isn't a genre or a dress code. It's a wedding with a character of its own. Less of what's expected. More of the music you genuinely love.

A limited number of shows

Fewer dates.
More Retrodukcija.

Retrodukcija plays a limited number of private shows each year. The band's energy doesn't come from how many weekends we play, but from playing every show as if it were our first — and our last.

So we don't try to fill every open date. We choose the weddings we can approach the way we want to: prepared, focused and at full energy.

We don't want to play every weekend. We want to remember every one we play.

Booking period

Booking isn't open
all year round

We open dates in limited booking periods. Once we've filled the planned number of shows for a season, booking closes — that way part of the year stays free for concerts, original work and Retrodukcija's other projects.

Retrodukcija × Glazbena kuhinja

One night.
One musical signature.

For urban weddings we've teamed up with Glazbena kuhinja, Retrodukcija's resident DJ partner. The idea isn't to have a band and then an entirely separate DJ programme after them. The idea is to make one musical evening.

Retrodukcija and Glazbena kuhinja agree on the musical direction, the repertoire and the pacing of the evening in advance. The band brings the concert energy, and the DJ picks up where the band leaves off, carrying the musical story on through rock'n'roll, indie, funk, disco, electronic, pop and other styles that naturally continue what was happening on stage.

Over the years we've tried different schedules — the DJ before the band, alternating blocks, the DJ between sets. What works best is the DJ coming in at exactly the point where the night turns: three blocks of Retrodukcija, then a three-hour after. Typically the band from 8pm to 1am, the DJ from 1am to 4am.

The band doesn't end. Only the way the music comes out of the speakers changes.

Retrodukcija + DJ Classic

Our main format for urban weddings

3 hours of Retrodukcija + 3 hours of resident DJ Glazbena kuhinja

Classic is built as a complete musical evening. Retrodukcija builds the concert half to its peak across three live blocks, and Glazbena kuhinja carries on without changing the musical character and takes the night to the end. Typically: band 8pm–1am, DJ after 1am–4am. Six hours of programme. One musical direction.

Includes

  • Retrodukcija live — 3 hours across three blocks
  • resident DJ by Glazbena kuhinja — 3 hours
  • joint Music DNA brief
  • band and DJ repertoire matched in style
  • music between the live sets

  • ambient stage lighting

You're not booking a band and a DJ. You're booking the whole night.

Add-ons

Your Music DNA

We don't need a playlist
of fifty songs

Before the wedding we want to understand your taste in music. What do you listen to when you're choosing for yourself? Which songs always lift you? What do you never want to hear? What kind of night do you have in mind?

We don't need a list of songs to work through in order. We need a sense of who you are and what kind of evening you want. With the Classic format, Retrodukcija and Glazbena kuhinja build a shared musical direction from that.

You tell us what you love. We'll watch what comes next.

Repertoire

What an urban
wedding sounds like

We don't try to play everything. At weddings we play music we can stand behind — rock'n'roll, evergreens, new wave, indie, funk, disco and pop. A single night can hold Azra, Haustor, EKV, Dino Dvornik, Jinx, Talking Heads, Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, The Black Keys, The Beatles, David Bowie and plenty in between.

A typical wedding band builds range through the sheer number of styles it covers. We'd rather build it through good songs from different eras that we can play as Retrodukcija.

From rock'n'roll classics and evergreens to new wave, indie, funk and disco — we adapt the repertoire to the room and the moment, but its character stays the same.

How the night runs

More concert.
Less wedding programme.

We don't see the evening as a series of preset wedding moments to get through. A set list exists, but it never matters more than the people in front of us.

Some songs get stretched. Some get skipped. Some we come back to. The audience decides how far the night can go. That's how we play concerts — and it's the same approach we bring to urban weddings.

Frequently asked

Do you play folk music, tamburica or turbo folk?

No. That isn't Retrodukcija's musical identity and we don't try to play something we're not good at. If that repertoire is an important part of the wedding you have in mind, you'll be better served by a wedding band that specialises in exactly that kind of programme. Retrodukcija plays a different sort of wedding — and that's precisely why people choose us.

How long does Retrodukcija play at a wedding?

It depends on the format. Classic includes three hours of Retrodukcija live across three blocks, after which the resident DJ from Glazbena kuhinja takes over the final part of the evening — typically the band from 8pm to 1am, the DJ after from 1am to 4am. Signature includes 225 minutes of Retrodukcija live across several sets. We adapt the timing to when the wedding starts, to the evening itself and to the agreed run sheet.

What's the difference between Classic and Signature?

Retrodukcija + DJ Classic is our main format: three hours of live band and three hours of resident DJ Glazbena kuhinja. It's made for weddings that want one connected musical story across the whole night. Retrodukcija Signature is the more exclusive format, with 225 minutes of Retrodukcija live and no resident DJ programme. Signature is available for a smaller number of dates each year.

Why does the DJ continue after the band?

Because the band and the DJ aren't doing the same job. Retrodukcija builds the concert half of the evening across its live sets. After that peak, the DJ can carry the energy on without a break and at the same time widen the repertoire towards music the band naturally doesn't play. That way the night isn't built twice. It's built once — and carried through to the end.

What does the schedule look like?

Over the years we've tried different arrangements — the DJ before the band, alternating blocks, and the DJ between sets. What works best is the DJ taking over at exactly the point where the night turns, after three blocks of Retrodukcija. A typical Classic schedule is the band from 8pm to 1am, then the DJ after from 1am to 4am. We adapt the exact timing to when the wedding starts and to the agreed run sheet.

What plays during the breaks?

The music during the breaks is part of the overall musical direction of the evening and we agree on it in advance through your Music DNA brief. With the Classic format, Glazbena kuhinja ensures musical continuity throughout the night.

How much does a wedding band cost?

A Retrodukcija performance at a wedding falls roughly between €3,000 and €5,000, depending on the date, the location, the chosen format and the production requirements of the venue. Travel and accommodation are added on top and itemised separately in the quote. A fuller breakdown of what moves the price and what's included is on the wedding band price page. Send us the date and the location and you'll get a concrete quote.

Do you handle announcements during the wedding?

Yes. We take over the key announcements of the evening — the grand entrance, the first dance, cutting the cake and similar moments. What we don't do are wedding games and activities that pull away from the atmosphere of an urban, stylish celebration.

Will you play a song for our first dance?

We will. We agree on the first dance in advance and rehearse it in our own arrangement. If the song is outside our repertoire, send it to us early and we'll tell you honestly whether we can play it the way it deserves.

Can we choose the songs?

Before the wedding we talk about your musical taste, the songs you love and the ones you don't want to hear. We don't work on a request-by-request basis — the programme and the pacing of the evening are ours to carry.

Can a friend or family member sing a song with the band?

They can, if we agree in advance. Tell us who and which song and we'll fit it into a set — improvising on the spot rarely ends well for the person singing.

Can another band play part of the wedding?

They can. We have no problem sharing the evening, as long as the timing and the technical side are agreed beforehand so the handover doesn't break the atmosphere.

Do you perform outside Zagreb?

Yes. We play across Croatia, and outside Croatia by arrangement.

Tips & tricks

What we've learned
across hundreds of nights

Atmosphere is rarely decided by one big thing. More often it's a series of small decisions that together set the rhythm of the evening.

01

The run sheet is the most important document of the night

A good run sheet isn't a list of obligations, it's a shared plan for everyone involved — the couple, the band, the DJ, the venue, the photographer and the planner. When it's done well, everyone knows what happens, when, and who takes over at that moment.

The result is less waiting, less improvising and a more natural flow to the evening.

The best run sheet is the one nobody notices. The best one is why the night simply flows.

02

Lighting changes the atmosphere more than you'd think

At private events a simple rule usually applies: less is more. During dinner there needs to be enough light for people to feel comfortable. Once dancing starts, the room should get darker and more intimate — closer to a club than a hall.

Watch out for standard venue wedding lighting: strong ceiling fixtures, cold white light and too many different colours can undo the atmosphere of a dance floor very quickly.

Light isn't a technical detail. It decides how a room feels.

03

Long breaks can stop the night

Dinner, speeches and formal moments are a natural part of a wedding. The problem starts when the interruptions get too long.

If the dance floor fills up, the energy rises and then everything halts because of late service or a long formal programme, the atmosphere often has to be built from scratch. After the main dinner, the night should increasingly belong to the guests, the music and the dancing.

Once the party starts, let it run.

04

The end of the night matters as much as the beginning

Every good evening has a beginning, a build, a peak and an end. Finishing while the atmosphere is still high is not the same as letting it fade while the last few people wait to see whether anything else happens.

The final few songs and the way the music ends are often exactly what people remember the next day.

A good night doesn't stop. It ends.

05

Don't try to plan every moment

A good plan matters, but too much planning takes away spontaneity. Not every minute needs its own activity, song, speech or surprise — guests need room to talk, dance and simply be together.

The same goes for the music. The band and the DJ need enough freedom to read the room and react to what's actually happening, instead of following a playlist decided in advance.

You know your guests best. We know best what to do once we see them in front of us.

The best weddings don't look perfectly planned. They look like everything is happening naturally — and behind that there is almost always a good run sheet, good production, people who know their job and enough room for spontaneity.

Set design & stage design

The stage is
part of the experience

For events that call for more than a standard setup, we can design the full visual concept of the performance — from the layout and look of the stage to the lighting and scenic elements.

We adapt the design to the space, the character of the event and the aesthetic of the evening. For events where how the stage looks matters as much as how it sounds.
